Dr. Gomez, who works at your facility, is seeing a new patient, Tanya, for the first time. Tanya is twenty-six and new to both the obstetrics service and facility. She informs Dr. Gomez that she is in her tenth week of pregnancy with her first child but has brought no physician referral or medical records. She expresses concern about some recent cramping, moderate bleeding and extreme fatigue. Tanya shares that her mom gave birth to a baby that had “lots of medical problems and died shortly after birth.” She says that her primary worry is that ”there may be something wrong with my baby” and she asks for “a full work-up to check everything.” She states that she and her husband, Tyrone, have stable incomes and good health insurance so cost is not an issue.
